Well there are a few extra things that you need to consciously think about and one of those is the shape of the frames of your specs.
By looking at your face in the mirror or else asking a friend to comment on the shape of your face, you may start to appreciate what sort of face shape that you have.

Go for a big frame if your face has an oblong like element to its shape. This way you will be able to minimise the appearance of your narrow, long face and fill it out a little more with your eyeglasses.
If your face is a square shape, then you should verify that your frames are slightly curved. Try to get the top of the frame to sit above the brow, quite high up, so as to downplay your strong jawline.
If you have a triangular shaped face, then don’t have your spectacles sitting too high on your face as this will just exaggerate your prominent forehead. do not pick out large frames either. Have very light nose bridges and unobtrusive colours. Avoid square shaped frames.
As always, these rules may be broken, but they serve as a useful starting point. If you have tried a specific shape of specs and they suit you, then by all means pick out a similar shape again. But, hopefully, being aware of some of these design principles will help you in your decision making.
