Hand Analysis: 2-Three
Though the seven deuce offsuit is known as the worst starting hand in online poker for its functionality, the literal worst possible two card combination in direct value is the deuce three. Seven deuce turns out to be a lesser poker hand because of its inability to make a straight, an unimproved 2 3 remains dominated by the higher value in the seven. But if you are playing in a full ring game and had to choose one of these two donkeys to go to bed with, you’d want to 2 3 because with it you actually have a chance of flopping or making a straight. Still, the 2 3 is not quite a hand you want to be entering pots with, especially for a raise. It can be nice to mess around and raise with it once in a while, in that if you somehow make a hand you’ll wow the online poker table. From the blinds the 2 3 is nice over other types of hands in that it is a connector, but even when the 2 3 is suited, you’re likely not going to totally be in love with making the weakest possible flush. Players like Gus Hansen and Daniel Negreanu might be seen playing this hand for its surprise value, and for how easy it is to dump when you miss and can’t win by bluffing.
